How can you say no to visiting a fortress? I do not think it is possible. That is why the Fortress Hohensalzburg is one place you MUST visit while in Salzburg, Austria. The history, the art, and the Mozart concert are truly amazing! The view, oh wow, the view is breathtaking. Absolutely breathtaking!!! Do NOT pass up the chance to see this! I promise you that it is worth seeing!

The fort is a stunning hilltop fortification which is free to wander around. You can also but a basic or comprehensive ticket and have a wander. The tickets give you access to the funicular or you can walk up a very short but steep climb or finally take a walk along the end of the river. I’d recommend the funicular up and the long walk back along the edge of the river for some stunning views.

Amazing location with truly stunning views of the historic part of the city. And the audio tour is really well done and is very informative. It's a steep walk to the top of you don't get a cable car ticket but either way the views are worth it. The museum also has some interesting pieces. All round great value and also worth upgrading your ticket to include the visit to the Prince's apartments. Allow at least three hours for your visit particularly if you are going to do the all inclusive pass, however you could easily spend longer. Overall a must if you are visiting Salzburg.

Awesome experience in this fortress. Reasonably priced attraction. Lots of historical information. Quite a trek but the tram get up to the top of the fortress was awesome with great views of the whole city from the top. Kids enjoyed it very much as well as they had an audio your for the kids that was more like story telling vs. just all facts in the adult audio tour version.

The fortress is an impressive site up on the hill of the city, and beautiful to look at. The ticket office is well organized - we chose the basic ticket, as we didn't feel we needed the extra museums. The funicular was worth it, saving us the long walk up the hill, in the heat. The Castle came with an audio guide, with lots of information and in multiple languages. However, the actual path and sites inside the Castle (or Fortress as it technically is called) was limited and we were done in 30-40 minutes. The views were amazing, and there were a few neat pieces of history, but overall, I found myself underwhelmed with the visit. I'm not sure I would make visiting the inside a priority. The best part of visiting, was the views of the city. While I had no problems with how the site was run, and the professionalism of the staff, the site itself was a little underwhelming.

Impressive place. The views are unbelievable and they have two very nice restaurants to finish a long day in the massive fortress full of history and interesting stories. You can end your day with a wonderful string quartet concert. Absolutely worthy!

Amazing place. Worth going to. Great views in all directions. Cool to see how it was made and upgraded and fun for anyone who has a passion for history. Lots of different parts to see and perfect spots for those photos we all want.

We climbed up to the top of the fortress. It is a steep climb but very walkable even for children. There is a funicular for those who don't wish to walk. The views are beautiful on the way up, and from the top. It was raining during our visit somewhat spoiling the views but was still very lovely. You are looking down on the entire of the city. There are exhibits and museums at the top of the fortress explaining its history and the history of the city. There is also a pretty little marionette museum at the top. It was very lovely and a must do in Salzburg.

Take the tram up to the top and enjoy spectacular views of the region. We stopped at a cafe at the top for a snack before exploring the grounds. Don't miss the marrionette museum. On your way out before hitting the square, you'll pass an amber store. If you love amber as I do, you'll find quality amber. Look for the sale rack! 😁

The view from top is amazing. U can see all the city and the country side. The place is historical but there is nothing much to see. and the way up is tough. Better take the train leading up. It's included in the ticket anyway. There r few restaurants on top over the amazing view. Reasonable prices.

Walked up the mountain pretending I was a soldier from the 1800s and ran out of breath real fast. Beautiful view at the top and free to roam inside the castle was a plus!

The view over the city is amazing. The museum inside the fortress is pretty interesting, not too boring. There's also a souvenirs shop, where you can get a nice surprise for your purchase.
