Well restored, the Summer Palace stands as a immense testament to the powers of absolute monarchy. The lake, the mountain and everything within it was sculpted with preindustrial technology to create a monumental estate for the Emperor and his family. Now filled with eager tourists, there's a whole plethora of attractions, climb on Longevity Mount and gaze out at Beijing, enter the various temples and pray to the Buddha, or walk along the shores of Kunming Lake in the Long Corridor and admire the artistic handiwork of the Qing artisans. See the giant bronze bull or take a stroll on the seventeen-arched bridge. The whole estate is based on the famous West Lake and that influence can definitely be felt here, but even without taking that into account it can be appreciated on its own merits. Definitely one of the finest spots to visit in Beijing and in my opinion way more worthwhile than the Temple of Heaven.

The Summer Palace is a UNESCO World Heritage Site since 1998. According to our guide, the Emperor spends 3 months in this location for the year. The lake is also man-made and was created to get good fortune/good luck. You can have a boat ride which is only for 10 minutes. Also, you can see old men flying kites on the bridge. You can spend an hour in this location.

It's a tremendous place to spend some time it really shows how much power and money the Emperor in China had, because the park is huge and the lake is man made, which shows how many people must have worked here. I would suggest to go in Spring when the flowers are blooming and everything is beautiful and you can see the nature. In summer it's very hot and very crowded because of that many tourists. Over all you can enjoy your time in summer

Surreal sense of peace amongst maddening crowd. This is a tourist spot so expect people. But the greens and lotus pinks make it a wonderful place to wander around. Grab a cold coffee and sausage from a vendor inside and just absorb the amalgamation of nature and art. You could climb all the way up to see beautiful budda statues. It will take ~2 hours for a walk around. Worth a visit.

Simply a must-see. Well worth the visit despite the swarm/hordes of tourists. One of the sights that should definitely not be missed. Take a look around and try to relax but crowds can become manic...

Definitely do not miss the Summer palace on a trip to Beijing. Very large grounds with easy walking paths and lots of stairs and Hill climbing if you choose to go up. Beautiful palace and buildings through out the grounds. Definitely do the Dragon ferry for great photos of the main building and the arch bridge. The view from the water will be the best. Look up in all the buildings to find the ceiling paintings. Nothing in the grounds of cheap so come prepared or expect to pay tourist prices for things like water. Also watch as they may try to sell you the more expensive bottled water unless your ask. Get their early before the crowds and the heat. Very easy to get there by Subway. It's a short Walk from the station. Also it looked like a city bus terminal was across the street.

Beautiful place to visit but be prepared to deal with crowds any time you visit. We went in the rain and we still had more tour groups than we could count. That said, understanding that the Summer palace is situated on a man made lake from hundreds of years ago is mind boggling! The effort it took to excavate the lake in these pictures is astounding. The architecture... The stairs... The temples... The stairs... The park... Be prepared to walk A LOT! Absolutely beautiful...

Quite a large and beautiful garden made up of a number of lakes interconnected by bridges and walkways. Suggest best time to go in spring or autumn. Extremely hot in the summer and lakes freezes in winter. Limited stores for buying of refreshments inside, suggest bring your own. Apart from the main entrance, none of the exits have taxi or other transports readily accessible. For a foreign tourist who's disconnected to the immense world of mobile payments and mobile cab app in China, highly recommend you hire a car or van for the day and takes you wherever you want to go instead.

The place is really big and for sure a great experience. You'll find many scenarios and views. But be aware that you'll not find good food for a reasonable price, they will charge you even the map of the place if you want to have it. I recommend you to bring your own snacks kit... The exit from South gate is a bit fat from the train station but the way back to north gate is a bit worse to do since you have to hike the hill again...

A place must to see in Beijing, the huge park with a lake inside is full of treasure, some little and hides, others you can't even miss to see. You can spend almost a day just walking inside and try to see as much as you can and even take a little trip by boat in the main lake. It's possible to buy souvenirs, water and food inside, so if you're in late don't worry, it will only cost a little bit more. Try to figure out first which are the attraction you want more to see, in order to make your visit easier. The Summer Palace is easily accessible by metro.

Lovely site and a must see in Beijing. My tip: Don’t buy the full ticket for 60RMB. 30RMB is enough.

Take a walk around the lake and see the views. Skip the ferry, it’s expensive considering how short the trip is.

Unfortunately, if you're traveling with a tour group, you will not see much or go far. You'll only see one section of the palace. You'll need at least a whole day to see everything. Get here early!

Make time for at least 3 hours to explore the area and feel bewildered by the fact that this massive area was once just for royalty. It’s the most beautiful place I went to in Beijing.
