Besides the fashion and classy, Nanjing road is also full of internationally famous food spots, like KFC, McDonald's, Pizza Hut. The pedestrian street is also a good place for evening walk. With its open air bars, rich light and music it is a famous area for nightlife.

Amazing place for shopping and walking on the street! It is the best sight of Shanghai, in my opinion. You can find everything there: clothes, marketplaces, apple store, foodhalls and other. The best photos you can make there too.

Great area to stroll in Shanghai. Plenty of shops, restaurants, and great for people watching. Better at night. Beware of scammers trying to approach you, just ignore them.

Fun to walk here, but please do not listen to the street liars (the police say this to everyone), and if you are a foreigner, please keep in mind that most people will not speak English (I saw a foreigner asking this and most people said no).

A great place for shopping and leasure walking. But fully infected with the scamers trying to target tourists. The locals should do something for this, otherwise this is a plaque. If anyone who can speak English reaches you, anyone, just ignore him rudely. Otherwise you are in trouble. Make sure you walk here safe, specially if you are travelling alone

Over rated really. During the day anyway. We didn't go there at night. Apparently it is very pretty at night and all lit up. Maybe a cool place to be if you are young! It is a very wide pedestrian street although the odd scooter tried to push through beeping. There are endless name brand stores like any city and not cheap prices. I heard many people go to Hong Kong to shop and it is cheaper. There is a park at the end and some street cafes on the way plus some children style "trains" if you get tired. I wasn't tempted to buy anything but walking back to hotel along the back streets was much more fascinating.

We visited Nanjing Road as part of a short night-time layover in Shanghai. We availed of the 144 hour Transit without VISA (TWOV) program. Our only plan was to walk from People's Square metro station through Nanjing Road and end up at the Bund. We had no knowledge of the attractions or restaurants on the road or in the vicinity. The pedestrian road is a nice place for a stroll and to people watch. The old buildings, which are lit up at night, are also nice if you like old architecture. Given more time, we might have let our kids ride on the trains. There are a lot of shopping options but we didn't really check them out. The street food, it seems, is not on the road itself but on other nearby roads. This is the one area where I most wish I did more research. The actual pedestrian-only part starts right after (east of) People's Square. It ends a few blocks before the Bund so space to walk will be reduced. There are some sections of the pedestrian street where motorcycles cross so be aware. Metro Line 2 goes straight from the airport to Peoples Square or Nanjing Road stations. We took the Maglev before transferring to Line 2 to speed things up.

The main pedestrian artery in Shanghai. Running from the Bund to the People's square. Lots of events and things happening all the time. Warning - the street can get very busy during weekends and public holidays. I mean really busy. Lots of restaurants, shops and hotels. And don't forget the complimentary cjatgong stations for your cell phones and tablets.

Great environment. It's full of thugs. Beware for anyone trying to sell a product or service. Posted pictures of girls and place who had robbed us. Do not fall in trap. They are more smarter then you they will ensure to get all the money they can.

Very busy shopping/eating district. Definitely a fun place to stroll and look around. At the main area, cars are blocked off from entering the street. A lot of it is souvenir shops and trendy shops. It was a little hard to find some of the shops that are more traditional and are hidden gems. When you do find the smaller quick service restaurants, the lines were crazy! But so worth the wait. My family and I booked it before it got dark because there seems to be a lot of scammers.
