Parthenon is a 5th century BC temple in the Acropolis of Athens. It is the everlasting symbol of Athens. One of the greatest cultural monuments in the world. The temple honors the Greek goddess Athena.

The construction of classical Parthenon took place between 447-432 BC to become the centerpiece of Acropolis complex. The Parthenon is of Doric order architecture with eight columns at its facade and 17 columns at its wings. It is the most important surviving building in Athens, as well as standing proof Classical Greece. Additionally, the sculptures and statues decorating the temple are considered marvels of Greek art.

Like majority of Greek temples, the back room of Parthenon also housed Athena's treasures.

In 6th century, the Parthenon served as a Christian church honoring Virgin Mary. During mid 15th century the Ottoman conquerors turned it into a mosque.

In 1687 a Venetian explosion severely damaged the Parthenon and its decorative sculptures. Some of these sculptures were restored and kept in British Museum of London, where they are exhibited today.

Parthenon Gallery lies on the 3rd floor of the Acropolis Museum, where visitor can observe sculptural decorations of the monument.

To see the temple visit Acropolis of Athens daily from 8am to 6:30 pm. The entrance fee is about 20 euros.

Greek Goddess Athena is the patron of Athens. She is the goddess of war and the daughter of Zeus. Parthenon is an ancient temple in Athenian Acropolis dedicated to Goddess Athena. Entry free for Acropolis is 10 euros. Once you hike the mount you feel that you are walking through ancient history among men and Gods. Preservation of the ancient site is in progress and you will see in good hands. Along the way there are explanatory notes to get you up to speed. Also ask the duty security hands if you have some questions. Also English language guides are available. It is truly a treasured experience.

Amazing sight! Thousands of years old but still standing. It would be awesome to see it rebuilt in it's former glory! Definitely worth going up there at 8am though to avoid the crowds and the heat! A guide is essential too to get the full picture.

Truly a humbling experience to see such a historical site. The area is kept clean and the staff at the site was friendly and ready to give plenty of information. I'd recommend to skip hottest hours of the day, since climbing up can become a pretty sweaty endeavor during summertime. A few hours before the closing time is good, the biggest tourist masses have left by that time and you will have more time to enjoy this fantastic place. Bring plenty of water for the climbing, especially if you are a bit older or you aren't used to the heat. Great view of the city over here too!

It's impressive, but unfortunately it is in such bad shape that significant scaffolding is in place, as well as a abuse crane that is presumably used to move around the heavy pieced of marble that are used for reconstruction efforts. I sincerely hope that it will be possible finance further rehabilitation of this wonderful monument so that it can look more aesthetic sooner, rather than later (when it might even crumble for all I know).

This is very awesome. Be sure to bring sun protection as it's very hot. Also I recommend wearing shoes that can handle walking on the slippery marble steps up to the site. All in all it was spectacular and I loved our time here. We took amazing photos. The posted information is also quite good. Really great. We have the multi-site ticket which is a good value. We visited the museum first which was nice to understand what we were looking at.

amazing things to see when you are Athens! It is a must to anyone visiting Athens to see! such history and interesting facts you can learn at the museum and then to see up close in person! be warned do not do this in the middle of the day during the summer. it is super hot up there and the sun reflects off of all the white making it blinding! bring after with you and stay hydrated! better to do this early in the morning before it gets to hot!

We walked all over the park, around the pond, around the outside of the Parthenon. Paid $6 to get in and learn the history as well as see the Breathtaking Athena statue. She is absolutely stunning. The statue is very very large and contains so much detail. Make sure you read all the different details posted throughout.

It was great to visit where western culture was born. Imagine life without music, art and democracy. Where good shoes as the marble tracks and steps leading up to the acropolis are very smooth and slippery. Great 360 degree views of Athens.

Gorgeous! Get there early as the tours start arriving around 9am (it opens at 8am). The side entrance (near the museum) is much less busy than the main entrance.
