Bonifacio Dr & Padre Burgos St, Manila

Intramuros is a historic landmark confined in the frames of its .67 square kilometer area in Manila. Surrounded by stone walls like a fortress, the landmark is also called the Walled City. During the Spanish Colonial period, it was equivalent to the City of Manila. The towns and suburban areas beyond the confines of the place were called the extramuros, that is “outside the walls.”
This used to be the political, education and economic center of the city. The walls date back to the 16th century. Those protected the area from invasions. Today, fortunately, invasions are not the case yet the walls are still up. Those are a major tourist attraction. If you intend to explore the local culture and history this is the place to be.
